Simple Ways on How to Help Save the Environment

The Earth today is very much different from the Earth we had thousands of years ago. Before, lakes and rivers were as clear as crystal. The air is fresh and the forests are full of trees. Wild animals used to roam the earth freely. Nowadays, however, all you will see are tall buildings and congested roads. Traffic jams are everywhere and the whole sky is nearly clouded with smoke. The air and the bodies of water have become polluted because of man. If people do not stop from their bad habits, our planet will die soon.
There are actually plenty of simple ways you can do to help save the environment. You do not really have to donate large sums of money, participate in marathons for a cause, or partake in fund-raising events. These ways are easy to do. In fact, you may be able to help by altering some of your household habits. You may not know that some of your daily practices actually contribute in the destruction of nature.
For instance, instead of boiling water on the hob, you may use a kettle. Not only will you be able to reduce your electric bill and save some money, but you will also be able to consume less energy. This goes the same with lights and gadgets. If you turn off the lights when they are not in use, you will be able to cut cost and use less energy. You must also turn off your television and computer instead of leaving them on standby. In addition, unplug your cell phone charger after you have fully charged your cell phone. Unplug all appliances, as well. Even if you are not using them, they still consume energy if plugged.
Turning your thermostat down even just by 1˚C can help you cut as much as ten percent off your electric bill. Heaters really use a lot of energy. It will also help to draw in your curtains to keep heat inside the room. On the other hand, instead of using the air conditioner or electric fan on a hot day, open your windows to let in cool air. Also, when cooking food, try to keep the lid on the sauce pan if possible. This will allow food to cook faster. Do not leave your oven door open whenever you check on your roasted chicken or turkey. If you want to check on it, take it out of the oven and inspect it. More heat and energy will be saved this way. Moreover, allow your hot or warm meals to cool down before putting them inside the refrigerator.
Always keep in mind that the more often you use electricity, the more energy you consume. And the more energy you consume, the more you contribute in the destruction of the environment. So, if you want to help save nature, avoid using electrical appliances as much as you can. If you only have a few pieces of clothing or several dishes to wash, consider cleaning them manually instead of using the washing machine and dishwasher. You may also sweep the floor with a broom instead of using a vacuum cleaner.

How to Have an Eco Friendly Christmas

The weather is getting cold. So, this really means that Christmas is just around the corner. The time of gift-giving and Christmas tree decorating is very near. Snowmen, colorful lights, and mistletoes will be all over the place. Choirs will sing Christmas carols and school children will go skiing. Christmas is really the happiest time of the year. Unfortunately, Christmas is also the time of the year when people dispose of a lot of garbage. Gift wrappers, leftover food, old things, food packaging, plastic cups, and Styrofoam boxes will be thrown away.
You know that a lot of garbage is bad for the environment. So, everyone should partake in helping save Mother Nature. But how can you help at a time like this? It is Christmas and it will not be right to ignore such a wonderful celebration. I mean, who would be insane to stop himself from having good meals and giving away presents? Surely, nobody wants to be the Grinch on Christmas day. Well, good thing there are plenty of ways on how to celebrate the holidays without being a burden to the environment. Having an eco friendly Christmas is the best way to go.
You can start with having a fake fir instead of a real tree. Yes, it is true that most families prefer to go to the woods and cut down a perfect Christmas tree. However, this practice may also be harmful to forest life. Fortunately, there are tree farms that sell good Christmas trees. A potted tree is actually not bad. You can bring it inside your living room or leave it outside on your porch. You also have another option which is to go for artificial trees. Even if these trees consume a lot of petroleum-based materials during production, they can still save on gas. Just think about it this way, you will be consuming a lot of gas whenever you go searching for that perfect Christmas tree; but buying an artificial tree will only be done once.
Nonetheless, what will you do when Christmas is over? Will you just throw your tree away? Well, recycling it is probably your best option. Instead of throwing it into the landfill, you can just ground it into wood chips. Such wood chips may be used to mulch your garden. The ribbon you used last year on your old Christmas tree may also be reused. This will help you cut cost and clutter. As for the Christmas lights, choose LEDs instead of the traditional ones. LEDs consume less energy compared to regular lights. They are more efficient, as well.
Of course, gifts and food are present during the holidays. However, instead of buying commercial gift wrappers from the mall, just create your own. You can use old paper bags from the grocery store. Color and decorate them so they will look nice. Creating your own gift wrappers adds a personal touch to the gifts you give. Moreover, avoid using plastic cups and utensils for your party. It is also better to use carton boxes for packaging instead of Styrofoam boxes.

Have an Earth-friendly Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner. In a couple of weeks, children will be trick or treating down the streets and knocking on your door for candy. Parades of people wearing scary and fancy costumes will be held; and jack o’lanterns will glow everywhere. But what if you do not have the budget to buy expensive candy and decorations? Will you be missing out on Halloween fun? Well, the good news is that you do not need to spend a lot of money during this event. There are plenty of ways on how you can cut cost and still have a wonderful time. These ways are easy and fun. Moreover, you will not just be able to save money but you will also be able to help save the environment.
Let us start with the decorations and costumes. Believe it or not, eco friendly decorations for Halloween are easy to make and inexpensive. They are also a lot safer compared to the standard décors you see in stores. Plus, they are truly outstanding and one of a kind because they are made by your hands. Jack o’lanterns, for instance, are simple yet attractive. Yes, making these décors are already a tradition and many families still carve their own pumpkins for Halloween. However, if you use organic pumpkins and natural wooden facial features for your jack o’lantern, you can be able to contribute in saving the environment and creating unique pieces. You can also be sure that the children will be free from harm as there is no need to use sharp objects for carving. The facial features can just be pressed onto the pumpkins.
As for the costumes, simple household items can be utilized. You can sew some old fabrics together and add flowers, twigs, and plants to the costumes. Playsilks may be used, as well. They are great for gypsy, mermaid, and pirate costumes. Of course, if there are decorations and costumes, there are also candy bags and treats. If you still have your old trick or treat bags, you can refurbish them and make them look new. You may also search for regular tote bags in malls. They are perfect for trick or treating and they do not cost much. You may decorate them or leave them as they are. As for the candies and treats, you can just make your own. Buying candies can be quite costly especially if there are a lot of children in your neighborhood.
Anyway, cookies, organic lollipops, and homemade chocolate bars are ideal for Halloween. They are tasty and easy to prepare. They can be served on parties or given as treats to children. Organic apple cidar, candy apples, caramel apples, muffins, pumpkin soups, pies, roasted pumpkin seeds, and cakes also make fantastic Halloween party treats. You can even coat your candy apples with a variety of toppings such as crushed nuts, chocolate chips, milk chocolate candies, and marshmallows. Lots of other apple recipes can also be served since Halloween falls on autumn when apples are abundant.

Tips on How to Help Save the Environment

Saving the environment can sometimes be so overrated. You will see groups of people coming up with unusual fund raising activities to help save the environment. These organizations are everywhere. Nevertheless, no matter how overrated saving the environment may seem, it is still a very important thing to do. The earth is important to you and to everybody else that is why you need to do your part in saving it. But how can you do that? Do you need to donate lots of money or do a ten kilometer run? Well, there are simple things that you can do to help. Donating money and participating in fund raising activities are good, but you may also help through your own little ways.
Skipping bottled water, for instance, is a great start. Instead of buying bottled water from the store, you can just bring your own water in a reusable water bottle instead. Not only will you be able to save some money but you will also be able to help reduce the amounts of plastic container waste. Walking or riding a bicycle to school or work is also good. You may also take public utility vehicles like the train and the bus. This will enable you to save on petrol; hence, reducing air pollution. Plus, you will be able to exercise and save money on parking space and gas. If you have additional budget, you may consider moving closer to your school or workplace. This may seem costly at first, but it will actually save you more money in the long run.
Another simple way on how help save the environment is by choosing organic products. When you go to the grocery store, opt for organic vegetables and fruits instead of the traditional ones. These products were grown with non-toxic and natural substances so they are free from hazardous chemicals. They are good for the body and for the environment, as well. Then again, you may also grow your own food at your garden or backyard. Peas, tomatoes, lettuce, and fruits, for instance, are some of the food that you can easily take care of. If you grow your own food, you will be able to save money and be assured that your foods are safe and delicious.
As much as possible, avoid using appliances such as fluorescent lamps, driers, and air conditioners. They consume a lot of energy, and too much energy consumption is bad for the environment. You must also discard batteries and electronic gadgets properly. Keep in mind that these things contain mercury which may be dangerous for people and nature. A better way of getting rid of old gadgets such as chargers and cell phones is by recycling them. Search your area for organizations that accept donations of old gadgets. Moreover, go for environment-friendly products when styling your hair. Hair sprays emit substances that contribute in the destruction of the ozone layer. This also applies to make-up. Choose mineral make-up instead of the usual make-up you see in stores.

Recycling Paper

Paper is one of the most important and versatile materials we use in the home, school, and office. It is made into newspapers, books, boxes, and even works of art. Without paper, we would not be able to live comfortably. However, in spite all of these advantages, there are also quite a number of disadvantages. Clutter and land pollution, for instance, will result if we do not dispose of paper properly. Not only that, but there would also be floods and landslides if trees are continued to be cut to produce more paper. Lives of people, plants, and animals will all be in danger if this happens.
Fortunately, tragedies can be prevented if people will only learn how to recycle. Recycling paper is good and very easy to do. If paper is recycled properly, there would be less garbage and less pollution. Landfills will not be filled with so many papers that could have been recycled. More trees will be saved. In fact, for every ton of paper that is recycled, seventeen trees are saved. Less energy will also be used, unlike when working with virgin materials. In addition, there would be a better atmosphere if only more trees are around. The air would be fresher and the sky will be clearer.
Anyway, you can start recycling by sorting out colored papers from white papers and newspapers. You may include your used office papers, old maps, and even glossy magazines. Usually, community drop-off centers and local curbside recycling programs collect papers that are sorted into these groups. If you do not have any idea on where to bring your used papers, you can look them up on the telephone directory or the Internet. You may be able to find some useful information there.
Make sure that all your white office papers are separated from their wrappers when you sort everything out. The paper quality of the wrappers is not as good as that of the white office papers. These wrappers, nonetheless, may be recycled with the colored papers. Newspapers, on the other hand, may go with colored advertising inserts. They must be tied in bundles using natural fiber or placed in brown bags. You must also make sure to remove any plastic or rubber as these are not papers. Moreover, you may recycle assorted colored paper with glossy magazines. You may even include letter envelopes. However, you must make sure that no staples, cards, or plastic stickers are included. Remove anything that is not actually paper.
Old telephone directories may be recycled, as well. It depends on the recycling program of your community if they will be recycled once every year whenever new telephone directories come out or at the curb. Carbon papers, waxed papers, tissue papers, thermal fax papers, pet food bags, fast food wrappers, and juice carton boxes, on the other hand, are not recyclable although there may be exemptions.
Furthermore, aside from recycling paper, you should learn how to go easy on paper. There are many other ways on how to get things done without using too much paper.

Travelling Around the World

Travelling is fun and exciting. Visiting another state or city is really nice. But have you ever thought of travelling around the world? Have you even wondered how it feels like to walk in a city in another country? Have you ever thought of how living in another continent for a couple of weeks will be like? Well, there are just so many good reasons why you should consider it. Going to a lot of new places will add spice to your boring life. You will be able to see wonderful attractions and lots of new faces. It will also give you relaxation, enjoyment, and a sense of fulfillment. In addition, travelling around is really good.
One great thing about travelling around the world is learning. It lets you gain knowledge and experience. You get to learn a lot about other people, their culture, their beliefs, and their environment. You also get to know yourself better. Of course, you also get to try lots of different stuff such as food, sports, and hobbies. Dishes in Asia, for instance, are mostly different from the dishes found in America. There is sushi in Japan, kimchi in Korea, adobo in the Philippines, etc. The sports are also different. Soccer, baseball, and basketball may be prominent in America but karate and other martial arts are well-practiced in Asia.
Travelling will also give you freedom. You may not have thought about it, but travelling will let you go to places at your own schedule. Nobody will tell you when and where to go. You can go to different countries whenever you feel like it. You do not even have to plan your activities. So, you get to experience one adventure at a time. Today, you can go bungee jumping. Tomorrow, you can ride the waves. There are plenty of activities you can do unplanned. You may even try to conquer your fear of flying, heights, snakes, or spiders. Travelling is a great way to conquer your phobias. It is also a great way to prove to yourself that “you can do it”.
Nonetheless, you must be well-prepared prior your trip. Even though you can go on with your adventures unplanned, you still have to plan things before you travel. You have to take care of your flight schedules, hotel reservations, insurance policies, and other important matters. Of course, you also have to secure your personal belongings. You have to make sure that you have arranged everything so you will not encounter any problem while on the road, sea, or sky. It will also be very helpful if you will research about the countries you wish to visit. Find out if the weather is fine and if there are no threats. There may be some countries with political problems or wars. Certainly, it will not be cool to go to a chaotic place. If you have the time, you can also look for cheaper deals and discounts. Just be sure that you choose carefully and wisely.

Fashion Tips for Women with Boyish Figures

Not all women have curvy bodies. Some of them are skinny or have boyish figures. A boyish figure is generally thin, lanky, has small breasts, and has narrow hips. If you have a boyish figure, you must realize that some clothes just won’t fit you right. Some dresses and pants will not look good on you. Nevertheless, you may still give the illusion of feminine curves if you know how to dress properly. Not having a curvy body must not stop you from being fashionable.
One good trick is to wear a pair of straight-cut jeans and a cropped jacket. This will make your body appear less boyish since the jacket is structured at the waistline. On the contrary, wide legged pants are perfect for straight figures. They are stylish and very flattering, especially if they have side and back pockets. Try wearing loose-fitted pants too. They can help create the illusion of curves. You may also wear hip-hugging pants to enhance any feminine forms that you have. As much as possible, avoid wearing fitted jeans because they will only emphasize your thin legs and narrow hips.
As for tops and blouses, choose pieces with laces, puffy sleeves, and prints. Any decoration that can get attention off your small breasts and broad shoulders will be good. Halter tops and wraps will look great on you too. They are fabulous pieces that create an even balance between flaws and fortes. They shift attention from the chest and shoulders to the waist. If you want your breasts to look bigger, wear something with embroidery and frills just above your bust line. Never ever wear skintight and shapeless tops. Obviously, they will only highlight your straight body. Instead, go for fine fitted tops and loose sweaters.
Halter dresses, coat dresses, and trench dresses also go well with boyish figures. They tend to emphasize flattering features while concealing faulty ones. On the other hand, if you want to be dressy and girly, wear dresses that have vibrant colors. Colorful dresses add sensuality and shape to the body. Tulip dresses, in fact, are the perfect pieces for you. They can effectively highlight your waistline while concealing your sporty legs. Stay away from dresses in dark and monotone shades because they will only make your lower body appear leaner. Baby doll dresses are also great, especially if you wear them with wide belts. They, too, can draw attention towards your narrow waist.
Of course, you may also wear shorts. Usually, women with boyish figures prefer not to wear shorts because of their body type. But if you choose the right pieces, you can look cool and trendy. First of all, consider the length of the shorts. Make sure that your shorts end at the point where your legs are most attractive. Then, consider the material. If you want it casual, choose denim. If you want it semi-casual, choose corduroy; and if you want it dressy, choose satin. You may also get a pair with pleats or tucks to define your body.
